Doxenaquine
A general fact sheet to help individuals and businesses manage the risks of doxenaquine in the home and workplace.
Doxenaquine is a red, sweet-smelling liquid that sees widespread use as an ingredient in healing potions. It does not naturally occur and must be manufactured in laboratory settings. While it has a strong odour, only the liquid itself poses danger to organic tissue.
Doxenaquine was developed as a medical treatment, initially as a wound sealant. In low concentrations, it is commonly used to heal physical injuries by encouraging new cell growth.
Uses
Doxenaquine is the active ingredient in all healing potions. Each type of potion contains a different concentration of the active ingredient, with effects ranging from the treatment of minor scrapes and bruises to more serious abrasions, burns, and lacerations. Some stronger types of potion may only be possessed by licensed professionals, and may pose significant danger in untrained hands.
Pure doxenaquine is a heavily controlled substance, and is largely only found in laboratory settings for research and potion production. Pure doxenaquine requires special handling and containment, as inappropriate glassware cannot contain it long-term.
Harms
Exposure to doxenaquine usually occurs through direct contact with the skin or eyes, ingestion, or inhalation of airborne droplets. The potential for harm depends on the concentration of the active ingredient as well as the presence of open wounds.
Low-concentration exposure on uninjured skin causes:
-
uncontrolled cell growth in the affected area
-
possible nerve damage
-
risk of various cancers
High-concentration exposure on uninjured skin causes:
-
uncontrolled cell growth at contact point as well as the surrounding area
-
nerve damage in affected areas
-
potential organ damage or failure
-
high risk of various cancers
Ingestion of any doxenaquine containing medicine can result in:
-
uncontrolled cell growth leading to blockage of the oesophagus or intestinal tract
-
organ damage and/or failure
-
high risk of nerve damage in affected areas
-
high risk of various cancers in affected areas
Control Measures
When working with low-concentration doxenaquine-containing agents such as healing potions:
-
always choose the lowest concentration necessary to treat a wound
-
ensure clear ventilation of the area
-
spray the potion directly on the wound from a distance no greater than 5cm
Never ingest doxenaquine-containing potions. Doxenaquine cannot be used to heal internal injuries safely. Contact a nurse at a pokémon centre or call emergency services to receive treatment for internal injuries.
When working with high-concentration doxenaquine-containing agents:
-
ensure clear ventilation of the area
-
wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), eg. respirators, safety goggles, chemical resistant clothing and gloves
-
minimise splashing or misting wherever possible to avoid uncontrolled skin contact
Never attempt to use high-concentration mixes containing doxenaquine without appropriate training. Hospital-grade potions are unsafe for general use, and should only be administered to life-threatening wounds by trained professionals.
